Concrete Work

Structural Concrete Work Done Right.

Concrete driveways, sidewalks, foundation pads, curbing, and decorative stamped concrete with precision forming and proper reinforcement.

Precision Concrete for Every Application

Concrete is the most versatile building material in outdoor construction. From structural foundation pads and garage slabs to decorative stamped driveways and polished walkways, properly placed concrete delivers decades of maintenance free performance. In the Fraser Valley, concrete work requires specific attention to mix design, reinforcement, and curing practices to handle our climate's freeze and thaw cycles and high moisture levels.

At Trueform, our concrete work follows the same engineering first approach as every other service we offer. We start with proper site preparation: excavation to the correct depth, compacted gravel subbase, and vapor barrier installation where required. Forms are set to exact grade with proper slope for drainage, and expansion joints are planned at correct intervals to control cracking.

Reinforcement is installed based on the application. Residential driveways and slabs receive welded wire mesh or rebar at minimum, with additional reinforcement at edges, corners, and load bearing areas. We use 32 MPa concrete as our standard residential mix, with air entrainment for freeze and thaw resistance. Higher strength mixes are available for heavy duty applications.

Decorative concrete options include stamped patterns that replicate natural stone, brick, or slate; exposed aggregate finishes that reveal the natural stone within the concrete; broom finishes for simple traction; and colored concrete using integral pigments or surface applied stains. Each decorative option requires different finishing techniques and timing, which is why experienced finishers make all the difference in the final result.

After placement and finishing, proper curing is essential. We apply curing compound or cover fresh concrete with curing blankets and maintain moisture for the required curing period. In hot weather, we schedule pours for early morning and take additional precautions against rapid moisture loss. In cold weather, we use insulated blankets and hot water in the mix to ensure proper hydration.

How We Work

01

Site Preparation

Excavation, compacted gravel base, and formwork set to exact grade with proper drainage slope.

02

Reinforcement

Welded wire mesh or rebar installed on chairs at the correct height within the slab. Expansion joints planned.

03

Placement & Finishing

Concrete placed, consolidated, screeded, and finished with your chosen treatment. Decorative stamping or texturing applied.

04

Curing & Protection

Curing compound applied, concrete protected during cure period, and forms stripped after adequate strength gain.

32 MPa Air Entrained Concrete

Standard residential mix with air entrainment for freeze and thaw resistance. Suitable for driveways, walkways, and slabs.

Fiber Reinforced Concrete

Concrete with synthetic or steel fiber reinforcement for enhanced crack resistance and impact strength.

Stamped Concrete

Textured concrete that replicates natural stone, brick, or slate patterns. Combined with color hardener or integral color.

Exposed Aggregate

Concrete finished by washing away the surface paste to reveal the natural stone aggregate beneath.

What to Expect

Standard concrete flatwork in the Fraser Valley costs $8 to $15 per square foot for basic broom finish slabs, $12 to $25 per square foot for stamped or decorative finishes, and $10 to $18 per square foot for exposed aggregate. Concrete driveways typically range from $6,000 to $15,000 depending on size and finish. Foundation pads and garage slabs are priced based on size and reinforcement requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Residential concrete driveways should be a minimum of 4 inches thick, with 5 to 6 inches at edges and areas that will support heavier vehicles. We typically pour 5 inch driveways as standard for improved durability.

We recommend waiting at least 7 days before driving passenger vehicles on new concrete, and 28 days before heavy vehicles or equipment. Concrete reaches approximately 70% of its design strength at 7 days and full strength at 28 days.

All concrete will develop some cracking over time. We control cracking through proper joint spacing (control joints every 8 to 10 feet), adequate reinforcement, proper curing, and air entrained mix designs. Control joints direct cracking to predetermined, hidden locations.

Both are excellent choices. Stamped concrete is typically 20 to 30 percent less expensive and provides a seamless surface. Pavers offer easier repair, better drainage, and superior freeze and thaw performance. We install both and can advise based on your specific situation.

Concrete patio costs range from $8 to $25 per square foot in the Fraser Valley depending on finish type. A 400 square foot broom finish patio runs approximately $4,000 to $6,000. Stamped or colored concrete patios range from $6,000 to $10,000.
