Paver Patios That Perform in Every Season
A paver patio is where your family will spend the most time outdoors. It is the foundation for barbecues, morning coffee, evening conversations, and every gathering in between. In the Fraser Valley, where it rains for months at a stretch and temperatures swing from summer heat to winter frost, a patio needs to be more than attractive. It needs to drain perfectly, resist settling, and look as good in year ten as it does on installation day.
At Trueform, every paver patio starts with proper excavation. We remove existing material to the correct depth for our climate, typically 8 to 10 inches below the finished paver surface. This accommodates a 6 inch compacted gravel base, 1 inch of bedding sand, and the paver thickness. The gravel base is installed in lifts and mechanically compacted with a plate compactor at each lift to achieve 95 percent or greater standard Proctor density. This is the step that prevents settling.
Drainage is designed into every patio from the start. We grade the base with a minimum 2 percent slope away from your home's foundation, and we integrate the patio drainage with the broader property drainage plan. In areas with poor soil drainage, we install French drains or catch basins at the patio perimeter to prevent water from pooling on or around the patio surface.
We work with every major paver brand including Belgard, Unilock, Pavestone, and Techo-Bloc. From large format slabs that create a modern, clean look to tumbled cobblestone patterns that evoke traditional European courtyards, we can match any design vision. All pavers are interlocking, which means they transfer load across the entire surface and resist individual paver movement over time.
Edge restraint is installed around the full perimeter of every patio to prevent the outermost pavers from creeping outward. Joint sand, either polymeric or traditional, is swept into the joints and activated according to the manufacturer's instructions. Polymeric sand hardens to resist weed growth and ant intrusion while still allowing the pavers to flex with temperature changes.

Frequently Asked Questions
A properly installed paver patio will last 25 to 50 years or more. The pavers themselves are rated for thousands of PSI and will not crack under normal use. The key to longevity is the base preparation and drainage, which is why we follow ICPI standards for every installation.
Minimal maintenance is required. We recommend sweeping debris regularly, reapplying polymeric sand every 3 to 5 years, and power washing annually if moss or algae appears. We offer maintenance programs that handle all of this for you.
In some cases, yes. If the existing concrete slab is level, structurally sound, and drains properly, pavers can be installed on top using a thinset adhesive or pedestal system. We assess each situation individually during the consultation.

Belgard, Unilock, and Techo-Bloc all manufacture pavers rated for freeze and thaw climates like the Fraser Valley. The best choice depends on your design preferences and budget. We carry all three and can show you samples during your consultation.
A typical residential patio takes 3 to 5 days from excavation to completion. Larger or more complex projects with retaining walls, stairs, or multiple zones may take 1 to 2 weeks. Weather can affect scheduling during the rainy season.
