Driveways & Walkways

Driveways and Walkways That Make a Statement.

The single most impactful curb appeal upgrade. Engineered with a deeper base for heavy daily use and BC's freeze and thaw cycles.

Curb Appeal That Lasts Decades

Your driveway is the first thing visitors see and the surface your vehicles cross every single day. In the Fraser Valley, driveways face a unique combination of challenges: heavy rainfall that saturates the base, freeze and thaw cycles that heave poorly prepared surfaces, and the daily weight of vehicles that can crack and rut inadequate installations. An interlocking paver driveway engineered for these conditions will outperform poured concrete and asphalt in both longevity and appearance.

The critical difference between a driveway and a patio installation is base depth. Where a patio base is typically 6 inches of compacted gravel, a driveway requires 8 to 12 inches depending on soil conditions and vehicle weight. We excavate to the full required depth, install the gravel base in 2 inch lifts with mechanical compaction between each lift, and verify density before proceeding. This deeper base distributes vehicle loads across a wider area and prevents the rutting and settling that plagues driveways built on insufficient bases.

Walkways follow the same engineering principles on a smaller scale. Every walkway we build includes proper excavation, compacted base, bedding sand, edge restraint, and polymeric joint sand. We grade every walkway for positive drainage and integrate it with the driveway and property drainage systems. The result is a walkway that stays level, drains cleanly, and resists frost heave.

We offer interlocking pavers from Belgard, Unilock, Techo-Bloc, and Pavestone in patterns ranging from simple running bond to intricate herringbone with soldier course borders. For driveways, we typically recommend thicker pavers (80mm) in a herringbone pattern, which provides the highest interlock strength and load distribution. Walkways can use standard 60mm pavers in a wider variety of patterns.

Every driveway and walkway project includes a detailed design that accounts for your property's grade changes, connection points to the garage or front entry, and integration with any existing landscape features. We handle everything from demolition and disposal of the old surface to final compaction and sealing of the new installation.

How We Work

01

Property Assessment

We evaluate grade changes, drainage patterns, vehicle access requirements, and existing surface conditions.

02

Demolition & Excavation

Remove existing surface, excavate to engineered depth (8 to 12 inches for driveways), and establish proper grades.

03

Base Construction

Compacted gravel base installed in lifts with density testing. Edge restraint and transition details at all connections.

04

Paver Installation

Pavers installed in pattern, border courses laid, joints filled with polymeric sand, and full surface compacted.

80mm Pavers

Thicker driveway rated pavers from Belgard, Unilock, and Techo-Bloc. Required for vehicular traffic and heavy loads.

Herringbone Pattern

The strongest interlocking pattern for driveways. Distributes load in all directions and resists lateral creep.

Polymeric Sand

Joint stabilizing sand that hardens to resist weed growth, ant intrusion, and washout while allowing flex.

Geotextile Fabric

Installed between native soil and gravel base to prevent soil migration and maintain base integrity.

What to Expect

Paver driveway costs in the Fraser Valley range from $30 to $65 per square foot installed, reflecting the deeper base and thicker pavers required. A typical two car driveway (400 to 600 sq ft) runs approximately $15,000 to $30,000. Walkways are typically $25 to $50 per square foot. Demolition and disposal of existing surfaces is included in our estimates. Contact us for a free onsite consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Paver driveways offer several advantages over poured concrete in the Fraser Valley: they flex with freeze and thaw cycles instead of cracking, individual pavers can be replaced if damaged, they drain better with permeable joint sand, and they have a significantly longer lifespan when properly installed.

For residential driveways in the Fraser Valley, we install 8 to 12 inches of compacted gravel base depending on soil conditions. Clay soils require deeper bases than sand or gravel soils. This is significantly more than the minimum required by many installers, but it ensures decades of performance.

Yes. Interlocking pavers rated at 8,000+ PSI can support any residential vehicle including trucks, RVs, and trailers. The key is using 80mm thick pavers in a herringbone pattern on a properly compacted base of adequate depth.

A typical residential driveway takes 5 to 7 days from demolition to completion. This includes removing the old surface, excavation, base construction, and paver installation. Larger projects with walkways and entry features may take 1 to 2 weeks.

Yes. A professionally installed paver driveway is one of the highest ROI exterior upgrades. It immediately transforms curb appeal and is a visible signal of property quality that buyers notice. Most estimates place the ROI at 70 to 80 percent of the installation cost.
